Lohri is associated with the legend of Dulla Bhatti, a folk hero who rescued girls from slavery. The festival also marks the end of winter and the harvest of rabi crops. The bonfire symbolises the Sun and the coming of warmth.

- Offer til, gur, popcorn, and rewari to the fire; circumambulate the fire.
- Sing Lohri songs (e.g. Sundar Mundariye); dance Bhangra and Gidda.
- Distribute prasad and share a meal; children go door-to-door asking for Lohri treats.
