वसन्तपञ्चमी — वसन्तर्तोः आगमनस्य देव्याः सरस्वत्याः पूजायाश्च पर्व। माघशुक्लपञ्चम्यां पाल्यते। विद्यायाः कलायाः सङ्गीतस्य च अधिष्ठात्र्याः सरस्वत्याः विशेषपूजा क्रियते। पीतवस्त्राणि धृत्वा, पीतपुष्पाणि समर्प्य, पुस्तकानि वाद्ययन्त्राणि च देव्याः पुरतः स्थापयित्वा पूजा क्रियते। बालकानां विद्यारम्भाय परमशुभं दिनम्। वसन्तर्तोः प्रथमदर्शनाय च प्रसिद्धम्।

According to the Brahma Purana, Brahma created the universe and felt something was missing. Saraswati emerged from his mouth with a veena. She is also associated with the day when Kamadeva shot his arrow at Shiva to awaken him from meditation. Spring is considered the season of love and creativity.
